Ongoing fighting in one of Yemen's largest cities is putting children in a city hospital at "imminent risk of death," according to the United Nations Children's Fund.

In a statement, UNICEF said 59 children at the hospital in Hudaydah could die because of the intense fighting. This includes 25 who are in the hospital's intensive care unit.

UNICEF said it's also concerned about reported intensified fighting near Hudaydah's port, which is where as much as 80 percent of the organization's humanitarian supplies, fuel and commercial goods are delivered.

According to a recently revised assessment from the United Nations, nearly half of the country's population is facing pre-famine conditions and could soon have to rely on foreign aid to survive.

Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called for a ceasefire in Yemen.
