Parts of Europe are facing a heat wave as temperatures sneak above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and threaten to hit record levels.

At least three people have died this week in Spain due to the high temperatures. Many parts of Spain and Portugal are under heat warnings for the rest of the weekend.

U.K. forecasters say temperatures on the Iberian Peninsula could break the European continental record of just over 118 degrees set by Athens in 1977.

People in Spain and Portugal have been warned to stay out of the sun and drink plenty of water.

Portugal's Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere says temperatures should start cooling down a little bit sometime early next week.
