Ohio Gov. John Kasich has signed two executive orders to strengthen gun control in the state. One aims to close gaps in a national background check system. The other requires law enforcement to immediately report information to the state. That's according to the Associated Press.

The Republican governor has been actively pushing for gun reform for months. He proposed six policy changes aimed at reducing gun violence to the Ohio General Assembly after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, earlier this year, according to The Hill. Those bills never moved through the GOP-controlled state legislature.

Kasich said the orders "respect the Second Amendment" and have "some common-sense reforms."
