SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Just one day after the University of Maryland reinstated head football coach DJ Durkin, the school's president decided to fire him.

President Wallace Loh said in a statement Wednesday: "This is not at all a reflection of my opinion of Coach Durkin as a person. However, a departure is in the best interest of the University, and this afternoon Coach Durkin was informed that the University will part ways."

Durkin was placed on paid administrative leave in August while the University System of Maryland Board of Regents conducted two separate investigations into the school's football program.

One probe focused on the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair. The 19-year-old died after suffering heatstroke during a football workout in June.

And the other investigation looked into the culture surrounding the Maryland football program.

Maryland's offensive coordinator will continue to serve as the team's interim coach. The team is set to play Michigan State on Saturday.
