Two Louisiana teachers' groups are planning a protest after one of their members was thrown out of a school board meeting and arrested Monday night after asking about the superintendent's pay raise.

The Louisiana Association of Educators and Vermilion Association of Educators say they are going to host a rally in support of Deyshia Hargrave on Thursday. Hargrave is a teacher at a school in the Vermilion Parish School District.

The superintendent who just got a raise told a local newspaper his new salary is commensurate with what teachers and principles are being paid in his district.

The same paper reports the officer who arrested Hargrave was previously accused of using excessive force against a man in poor health in 2012.

One of the teacher groups says Hargrave is working with its attorney on "next steps".
