Big tech companies met with nine state attorneys general and other officials behind closed doors Tuesday. The meeting at the Department of Justice was a discussion about how to moderate content online.

This comes as tech firms have been in the hot seat about handing user privacy data over to corporations and social media's role in aiding foreign adversaries during the 2016 election.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions also reportedly brought up concerns about tech companies silencing conservative voices on social media. Echoing President Donald Trump, "Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices."

But two Democratic state officials reportedly warned Sessions against "policing the way tech companies handle content on their platforms."

Internet companies like Twitter, Google and Apple are set to testify about user privacy data in front of the Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday.
