Apple CEO Tim Cook had some tough words for Facebook as it deals with a massive data scandal.

During an interview with MSNBC and Recode, Cook slammed the social media giant for profiting from user data, saying privacy is "a human right" and "a civil liberty."

And when Cook was asked what he would do if he were in Facebook's shoes, he said, "I wouldn't be in this situation."

Facebook has been in hot water since news broke that data firm Cambridge Analytica was able to access about 50 million users' information without their explicit consent.

A few days before Cook's interview, the Federal Trade Commission confirmed it's investigating Facebook's data practices.
