Actress Carol Channing has died at the age of 97.

The legendary performer got her big break on Broadway when she starred in 1949's "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."

She later won a Tony Award for her role as Dolly Levi in the musical "Hello, Dolly!" She performed the lead part more than 5,000 times over her career.

Channing also won a supporting actress Golden Globe for her work in the film version of "Thoroughly Modern Millie" alongside Julie Andrews.

Beyond her talents on the stage and silver screen, Channing was the first solo artist to perform during the Super Bowl halftime show, doing so in 1970.

Channing is survived by her son.
