The Department of Homeland Security officially launched the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office.

VOICE promises to provide support to victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. President Donald Trump talked about it in February.

"We are providing a voice to those who have been ignored by our media and silenced by special interests," Trump said.

Among its many objectives, VOICE says it will offer information to victims by explaining the removal process for undocumented immigrants.

The office also plans to set up a hotline to answer questions, help victims sign up for status updates about undocumented immigrants in custody and compile quarterly reports about the effects of crimes committed by people living in the U.S illegally.

Democrats have accused the Trump administration of trying to stigmatize immigrants by highlighting these crimes.
