The Trump administration's upcoming budget proposal will reportedly create a program to give mothers and fathers six weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child.

White House officials told several outlets the details still need to be ironed out but that Ivanka Trump is expected to play a major role in shaping the policy.

Trump has advocated for paid parental leave for a while. She encouraged her father to include mandatory paid maternity leave in his campaign platform.

The U.S. is extremely far behind when it comes to family leave. It's the only developed country that doesn't guarantee new parents even one day of paid time off.

The program is expected to cost around $25 billion over 10 years, but officials reportedly stayed tight-lipped about where those funds would come from.
